Cobham Asuquo is a gifted songwriter and composer with a true heart for worship. This Nigerian prodigy has had a passion for music from the time he was a little boy.

"Music chose me," Asuquo said. "It chose me, and very violently, too. I used to blow on my jaws to make music. It was my own little bass line."

Asuquo has always known he was different from all other kids yet takes it all in stride.

"I was born blind. I was born without sight" Asuquo said. "For me, I did everything they were doing at the time. I ran, and they ran. I bumped my head, but I guess I wasn't the only one bumping my head. I guess other kids bumped their heads, too."

Some music critics suggest that Asuquo's musical talent is on par with musical legends Stevie Wonder and Ray Charles.

"Stevie Wonder had – well, Stevie Wonder greatly influenced me. Because I liked his music, and I liked his style. And I liked the fact that, you know, he was pretty much an independent person in terms of production."

Asuquo also incorporates other styles of music into his work.

"Stylistically I see my music evolving. I see my music as a result of research, as a result of effort, as a result of work, and also as a result of God's grace," Asuquo said. "I listen to all kinds of music. I pay attention to classical pieces, as well as jazz. I appreciate every genre of music in it's own regard."

As a budding artist Asuquo credits God for his gift of music. He believes that God works all things out for good, including his disability. Asuquo's purpose is to be a blessing to other people, so that he can communicate his experiences and the wisdom that God has placed in his heart in an acceptable means.

Humor also plays a very big role in Asuquo's music. He often jokes about what he would do if he weren't blind.

"If I had sight, I would drive," Asuquo said with a smile. "I am grateful, I am grateful for who I am."

Asuquo hopes to inspire people to understand the truth during his performances,: God desires our worship because we were each made for a purpose.

Through it all, love that has gotten Asuquo through some of the most difficult times in his life.

"I have come as far as I've come because, well, God has loved me, my family has loved me, and I have friends who have loved me," Asuquo said. "I can tell you, because I know where I started from, I know where I am, and I know where I'm going. The possibilities are limitless."
